Simplifying Contemporary Landscapes
2-DAY LANDSCAPE PAINTING WORKSHOP
Learn how to paint contemporary representational landscapes using oils or acrylics and reference photos.
In this two-day workshop, alla-prima oil painter Fiona Verdouw will teach you how to simplify a scene into manageable areas and shapes, whilst using values, colour and tone to bring depth and dynamics to your painting.
Participants will learn essential colour theory and composition skills. Guidance will be given in mixing believable landscape colours and applying various brushwork techniques using the alla-prima (wet into wet) painting method.
This workshop is best suited to those already comfortable with using oils or acrylic paint and who already have some understanding of basic colour theory. Students should come prepared with enough of their own tools and materials to create1 - 2 small landscape paintings on their chosen support (canvas, panel, primed paper).

Old Clothes / Apron / Smock

- For oils: Jar & walnut oil to clean brushes between paint application
Walnut oil can be purchased from supermarkets or health food stores.
Please note, I will be teaching without the use of solvents / thinners - tough I will use a low-toxic medium. If you are accustomed to using these, here is an opportunity to try painting without.
