An Introduction To Drawing Portraits

Students will work from a photograph to create a convincing, lifelike portrait. The workshop will cover key concepts including construction of the head, light & shadow, shapes, values & edges and use of graphite or charcoal medium.

Materials List.

Good quality photograph - preferably in black and white.
Try to select one that is clear and has a good balance of dark and light.

2B graphite pencil or similar like 3b, 4b
Willow charcoal
Compressed charcoal
Good quality smooth paper for drawing
Soft eraser

You can choolse only one type of medium, either graphite or charcoal if you wish, or try both.
