WATERWAYS 2019 EXHIBITION AT THE LONG GALLERY

INFORMATION AND ON-LINE ENTRY

Inspirational text
We have some truly iconic assets, both built and natural, that provide such a powerful sense of place and are of great importance to our future.  Visitors to these places, whether locals or tourists, need to have a genuine rather than ‘plastic’ experience. These places are a competitive edge that we enjoy.   They need to be treated with respect as it makes no sense to ‘kill the goose that lays the golden egg’ so to speak.

Their stories and their connection with our island’s history need to be fully expressed, with well planned but careful human intervention. These special places and spaces speak for themselves, whether it be a magnificent view or something that provides an opportunity for reflection in some way.  In many cases they are the very reason people live here and that people flock here to visit.  It is a challenge to make sure they are not being loved to death, like so many other special places across the globe that have lost their soul and reason for being through over-development or disrespect.
