Sebastian Galloway will show oil and acrylic painters how to create detailed, realistic portraits.
NOTE: This is a 2-day workshop.
Day 1 - 9:30am to 3:30pm, 23rd May 2024 (Thursday).
Day 2 - 9:30am to 3:30pm, 24th May 2024 (Friday).
Workshop notes and materials list information.
For this workshop the painting of the portrait image will be demonstrated in oils on a white primed wood panel. The reference image will be drawn on the surface prior to the workshop.
Workshop participants can choose their preferred substrate for the painting, for example canvas, wooden board or paper suitable for painting on.
Sebastian will use an iPad to display the reference image while painting. Print outs of the reference image will be available for participants or you are welcome to bring and use your own screen if this method is preferred.
The exact colours are not essential but a similar colour range is recommended for this image. For acrylic painters a slow drying medium may be helpful for the techniques used in the workshop.
The brushes used by Sebastian are chosen for their precision and soft blending capabilities. At least one brush suitable for fine detail and one soft blending brush are recommended.
It is recommended that the workshop participant draws the reference image on their surface prior to the workshop to maximise painting time.
