About this event

Get to Grips with Colour

Spend a day marinading in colour, as we explore how to see and create believable colours that will bring your art to life.

This one day class will help grow your confidence in recognising, mixing and using colours within your paintings.
This workshop provides useful and enjoyable painting exercises which complement introductory colour theory and moves beyond simply painting colour wheels!
Get to grips with tonal values, colour temperature and saturation, combining colours and how to achieve the colours you want without having to buy every tube in the art store!

This workshop is suitable for oil and acrylic painters at any stage of their painting journey.

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED TO BRING:

Old clothes/apron/smock

PAINT (Acrylics or oil paint) Bring your entire selection!

Primary colours (red, yellow, blue) plus white are essential.
All variants of these plus secondary colours (oranges, greens, purples) are welcome and will be useful if you have them.
BRUSHES Whichever variety you are most comfortable using. Try to include some medium sized (8 - 12) flats, brights or filberts
PALETTE Whatever you're comfortable with, but the larger the better. Aim for A3 size. Definitely no smaller that A4. I recommend disposable paper palettes for speedy clean-up- or bring some Baking Paper to use over the top of your regular palette - it works brilliantly!
PAINT ADDITIVES: - For acrylics: Water in spray bottle to mist your paint - For oils: Jar & walnut oil to clean brushes between paint application. Walnut oil can be purchased from supermarkets or health food stores. Please note, I will be teaching without solvents/thinners - though I will use a low-toxic medium. If you are accustomed to using these, here is an opportunity to try painting without.
PAINTING SURFACE/ SUPPORT Oil sketch pad paper
SKETCHING SUPPLIES - paper/ sketch book - soft pencil 2B/4B - * black marker and fine liners
