Introduction To Figures In The Landscape In Pastels With CLARE HOLDER-2 Days

Pastels - Introduction to Figures in the Landscape
What we will cover
Some figure drawing basics – gesture and structure
Simplifying landscapes – simple yet characteristic
Pastel painting techniques
Composing figures into landscapes – perspective and design elements
Developing a concept – the story
If time allows, some ‘colour bootcamp’ with pastel
What we can expect to achieve
More fluency and confidence drawing figures in simplified landscapes.
A number of small studies in pastel and one larger composition on your choice of pastel paper.
An understanding of what brings life and energy to figures, and pastel paintings in general.
Fun and friendship whilst enjoying painting a subject that I am passionate about.
What to bring
Good selection of pastels (eg Rembrandt, Windsor and Newton, Art Spectrum.)
And some soft pastels, creams, whites (eg Schmincke, Unison, Sennelier)
Black pastel paper (eg Canson Touch) 1 full sheet
One extra sheet, your choice of colour (or several smaller ones, roughly A3)
Sketch book, pencil, soft kneadable rubber
Willow charcoal (and soft charcoal pencil if you have one)
Easel
Backing board for a half sheet pastel paper
Masking tape
Wet Ones for wiping hands
Apron, if you like to wear one
paper stump/torchon, for blending, etc.

I will provide subjects to paint but you are welcome to bring your own reference photos of people in
active poses, and landscapes.
I am looking forward to meeting you all and sharing with you what I know and the way I like to work.
